Tulipa linifolia

The fine botanical Tulipa linifolia is scarlet red and has striking pointy flowers. The red colour can vary from glossy to a bit dull, but is always a remarkable appearance. In full sun the flower opens so wide that the petals almost make an angle of 180 degrees. Tulip linifolia owes her name to her greyish green leaves and means "with leaves like flax". Tulipa linifolia is found in Central Asia in the mountains of Afganistan, Tadjikistan en Uzbekistan. The first description dates from 1884. Received the Award of Garden Merit by the RHS in 1993.
