The beautiful coppery orange flowers of Tulipa whittallii are crown shaped and stand on a long slender stem. The heart is olive black with a golden yellow ring and black stamens. Tulipa whittallii originates from Western Turkey and Greece where they grow in the fields and meadows. This cheery tulipa is great for the garden, they bloom long and naturalize very well, so you can enjoy them every year. The bulbs need full sun and well drained soil. Tulipa whittallii was grown in Izmir in the 1920's, but officially registered in 1929. Received the Award of Garden Merit by the RHS in 1999. |
